I really like the new food pyramid. (It isn't a pyramid at all, rather a plate.) This makes teaching easier and helps visualize a balanced meal. I introduced the plate and we drew various foods on plates. The part enjoyed the most was letting the girls use a plate and real food to create meals meeting the USDA's recommendations.
A word of warning- once you teach this your children may just call you out on those missing veggies or grains through out the day.
